Ado’s New Song “Raven Sky” Named Theme Song For Takashi Miike’s Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo

Grammy Award-Winning Composer Masa Takumi Joins Creative Team Behind Ado’s New Track

Song Featured in Newly Released Trailer for NEON’s Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, Set to World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival

 

(New York, NY- August 24th, 2026) “Raven Sky,” a new song by global Japanese superstar Ado, has been named the theme song for acclaimed filmmaker Takashi Miike’s upcoming film Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo. The news was announced by Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan alongside the release of a new trailer offering the first preview of the track.

Grammy Award-winning Japanese composer Masa Takumi joins the creative team behind “Raven Sky.” Takumi won Best Global Music Album at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards for his solo album Sakura. A release date for “Raven Sky” will be announced at a later date.

Ado was selected to perform the theme song for Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo with the film’s international ambitions in mind. Directed by Takashi Miike, the Japan-U.S. production stars Shun Oguri and Lily James, with NEON distributing the film in North America.

Miike described “Raven Sky” as “desperately beautiful” and “electrifyingly powerful,” adding, “I’m grateful for this incredible song that will leave the whole world stunned.”

Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo has been selected for the Special Presentations program at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, where it will make its world premiere. The film is scheduled to open in Japan on October 16, 2026, with NEON handling North American distribution. A North American release date has not yet been announced.

Raven Sky” marks the latest milestone in Ado’s growing international career, bringing her together with Grammy Award-winning composer Masa Takumi for a track created to accompany Miike’s latest film. The song is scheduled for release to coincide with the film’s opening day. 

The new song arrives amid Ado’s continued rise on the international stage. Since her 2020 breakthrough with “Usseewa,” Ado has become one of Japan’s most prominent global artists, with hits including “New Genesis” and “Show.” In 2025, she completed Ado WORLD TOUR 2025 “Hibana” Powered by Crunchyroll, one of the largest world tours ever undertaken by a Japanese artist, reaching approximately 500,000 fans across 34 shows on five continents.

In 2026, Ado performed at Zipangu in the Los Angeles area before headlining two historic, sold-out shows at Nissan Stadium. On August 2, she made her highly anticipated Lollapalooza debut in Chicago, closing the festival’s 15,000-capacity Airbnb Stage before a packed crowd. She then made her Summer Sonic debut as a headliner, performing in Tokyo on August 15 and Osaka on August 16.

She continued her international momentum with her Lollapalooza debut in Chicago, closing the Airbnb Stage before a packed crowd, followed by headline performances at Summer Sonic in Tokyo and Osaka.

Ado was also ranked the most-streamed Japanese artist overseas on Spotify during the first half of 2026, further underscoring her rapidly expanding international reach.
