"Gorgeously sung… If this is what 'directing from beyond' sounds like, it's rather beautiful."— The Times (UK)

August 28, 2026 – Alicia Witt today releases her new album Between Heaven and Earth via Thirty Tigers. Produced by Joe Henry and recorded live in New York City, the album reflects on love, intuition, grief, fate, and the connections that remain with us, drawing inspiration from Witt's four-decade friendship and creative relationship with filmmaker David Lynch.

Alongside the album, Witt shares the official music video fo“You Just Do.” Directed by Joshua Britt and Neilson Hubbard, the video explores looking back on relationships, clearing away trauma, and confronting the past through a lens of wonder. Caught in the stalemate between pain and forgiveness, Witt asks, “Is that forgiveness? The great big what-if-ness?” wondering whether direct reckoning is the only way through. The answer, perhaps, is simple: you just do.

Recorded live in the studio over four days in New York City, Between Heaven and Earth was produced by Joe Henry with minimal overdubs. The approach allowed Witt and the musicians to follow instinct in the studio, capturing the performances as they unfolded.

The 13-track album includes previously released singles "Thank You" featuring John Paul White, "Freeze Frame," and “More.” Witt will bring Between Heaven and Earth on the road beginning September 10, performing music from the new album alongside songs from throughout her catalog. Recent features on Between Heaven and Earth include Nashville SceneMusicRadar, and the Takin' a Walk podcast with Buzz Knight, where she reflected on her music career and friendship with Lynch. The album was also recently featured by The Times (UK), which praised Witt's performance as “gorgeously sung,” adding, “If this is what 'directing from beyond' sounds like, it's rather beautiful.”

Long celebrated for her work as both an actor and musician, Witt has released multiple acclaimed albums, performed around the world – including at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry – and shared bills with Ben Folds Five, Rachel Platten, Bob Schneider, Jimmy Webb, and John Fulbright. A classically trained pianist, her music has been described as “sharply personal, boldly melodic pop originals” by the Philadelphia Inquirer, while Broadway World praised her “rangy, honeyed voice, clear as crystal, pretty as a stained-glass window,” calling her “a voice to treasure.” Witt also spent five weeks on Billboard's Top 30 Adult Contemporary chart with the 2021 piano power ballad "Chasing Shadows," from her self-co-produced album The Conduit.

Between Heaven and Earth follows a prolific creative period for Witt. In 2024, she starred opposite Nicolas Cage in the smash hit horror film Longlegs, and released the self-produced Christmas album I Think I’m Spending Christmas With You. Best known to many for her decades-long acting career, Witt has appeared in acclaimed projects including Dune, Twin Peaks, Orange Is the New Black, Nashville, The Walking Dead, Two Weeks Notice, Urban Legend, Mr. Holland’s Opus, Cybill, and The Sopranoshttps://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001860/
