Last Friday, Aly & AJ took to the Governors Ball stage and delivered an electrifying set full of heart and SoCal charm which Rolling Stone called one of the “Best Things We Saw at Governors Ball 2022”.
Decked out in fashions courtesy of Giuliva Heritage and Julia Heuer, the indie sister duo performed a set largely based around their acclaimed most recent album, ‘a touch of the beat gets you up on your feet gets you out and then into the sun’, which the Wall Street Journal previously said “looks forward to sunshine and summer days and recalls the jangling guitars and warm soundscapes of Fleetwood Mac” – a sentiment that feels all the more true after witnessing their Gov Ball performance.
The performance serves as a cap on their most recent a touch of the beat… North American tour which included sold-out shows at Los Angeles’ The Wiltern, New York’s Webster Hall, Chicago’s House Of Blues, and many more. While on the road, the duo partnered with social activism company Propeller to raise donations for The Trevor Project and To Write Love On Her Arms as well as sign petitions, join mailing lists for these organizations, and more.
The tour included a performance at Bottlerock (where they donned styles by Missoni) and also precedes a forthcoming run of dates with Ben Platt in the fall, which includes The Hollywood Bowl and Madison Square Garden, as well as performances at Austin City Limits, Sea.Hear.Now, Float Fest, and Corona Capital. Full dates HERE.
The Gov Ball performance follows their main stage slot at last year’s Lollapalooza and is another cornerstone for what has truly been an incredible year and a half centered around their latest album, which also included performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Good Morning America, partnerships with Bobbi Brown cosmetics and Aperol, plus critical acclaim for the album from Vogue (“the feel-good album of the summer”), Vanity Fair (“the sisters continue to break new ground”), The Fader (“Aly & AJ just keep winning”), and Line Of Best Fit (“an exceptional record that rounds off what’s been a triumphant return”).
