Angélique Kidjo has unveiled the music video for her song “Do Yourself” featuring Burna Boy. The single, which Angélique describes as an “anthem for a new Africa,” was nominated for a Best Global Music Performance GRAMMY, and is from her widely celebrated album Mother Nature, which earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best Global Music Album.
The video captures Angélique’s singular vibrancy and positive energy, and was directed by Meji Alabi, who has worked with Beyoncé and Wizkid.

“With Burna Boy, we have written the anthem for a new Africa – laced with modernity, beauty, and energy,” says Angélique. “We revere Africa because she is the birthplace of all humanity. We won’t let her fall apart, we know she is strong like metal and steel. A long time ago we learned that if you want Africa to change, you have to do it yourself!”
Angélique has three GRAMMY nominations heading into the awards this spring, including Best Global Music Album, Best Global Music Performance and Best Global Music Performance for "Blewu,” a recording from Yo Yo Ma's recent album. She is a 12-time nominee and four-time winner. The “towering figure of cross-cultural music” (New Yorker) was also included on TIME’s 100 Most Influential People list with an introduction by Alicia Keys, performed at the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony, sold out Carnegie Hall in November, and was cast in a film alongside Viola Davis.
Mother Nature was released in June. Met with career-best raves, it tackles major issues like the climate crisis and the struggle for freedom, but in Angélique's hands, these themes are translated through music that is radiantly joyful. The album also reinforces her status as a true icon of African music - joined by a host of young African stars that have all been greatly influenced by her, including Burna Boy as well as Mr. Eazi, Yemi Alade and Sampa The Great. The album led to features, performances and interviews with the NY Times, Rolling Stone, Amanpour, NPR All Things Considered, NPR Music, Ebro, Tamron Hall and far beyond.
