Balming Tiger Announces Debut Studio Album January Never Dies Set for October 19

September 21st, 2023 - Alternative K-pop group Balming Tiger announces their debut studio album, January Never Dies, will arrive on October 19 via AWAL. The 14-track album is a showcase of the Seoul-based collective’s innovative sound, fusing elements of punk, hip-hop, and forward-thinking pop. All eleven members participated equally in the LP’s creation, from writing the lyrics, to directing the music videos, to recording the songs. January Never Dies features previously released hit singles “SEXY NUKIM (feat. RM of BTS),” “Trust Yourself,” and “SOS.” Today the group reveals “Kamehameha,” the last pre-release song to come out before the album drops.
"Kamehameha'' expresses the psychology of a heavily drunk character and is inspired by a song sung during a Korean drinking game. During the song, the group compares the feeling of being drunk and full of confidence to Kamehameha, the representative skill of Dragon Ball. With the addictive East Asian riffs (produced by bj wnjn) alongside sogumm’s melodies and lyrics, this track represents the feeling of being drunk and the satire of momentary bravado felt when drinking alcohol. Additionally, “Kamehameha” has become a fan favorite during Balming Tiger's sets and they incorporate the drinking game while performing the track. It is an absolute must-see!
The song’s peculiar artwork was created by Balming Tiger's visual artist Chanhee Hong using Generative Adversarial Network (GAN), an AI image generation technology. In addition, he directed and produced the song’s exciting and dizzying music video.
Hailed as one of Rolling Stone’s “Future 25” this year, Balming Tiger made a major splash at SXSW 2023 with their electrifying energy, innovative sound, and powerful stage presence. The group’s blend of genres and memorable stage presence earned them the prestigious Grulke Prize, which recognizes the festival's most exciting and promising up-and-coming acts. Previous recipients include Leon Bridges, Haim, Chvrches, Anderson .Paak and more.
Coinciding with today’s announcement, Balming Tiger is sharing details of their long-awaited Fall World Tour. Fresh off of summer festival appearances at Australia’s Splendour In The Grass and Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival, the collective is set to perform at Iceland Airwaves, Pitchfork Music Festival London, Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, and cities including Paris, Amsterdam, Toronto, Brooklyn, LA, Mexico City, and many more.
