August 21, 2026: Today, legendary songwriter Bernie Taupin shares “One Hundred Ways,” a new collaboration with his daughter Georgey Devon Taupin that reflects on family, mortality and what we leave behind for those we love. The track appears on his forthcoming album, The Sea Has No Mercy, set for release on October 23 via Vertigo Records and MCA Nashville.
Serving as the album’s closing track, “One Hundred Ways” unfolds as a conversation between father and daughter. Taupin looks ahead to a time when he will no longer be here, offering reassurance to his children in the song’s opening verse: “Before I go, well I need you to know / Trees will always grow.” Georgey responds in the second verse: “We’ll catch the ball and run with it / Don’t worry about that / We’ll follow in your footsteps / Just leave us the map.”As their voices come together, the song finds comfort in the natural cycle of life and in the bonds that endure across generations.
“‘One Hundred Ways’ is a celebration of the love that families who love each other share and how they can trust each other with passing on what they want to pass on,” says Georgey.

The deeply personal nature of “One Hundred Ways” is at the heart of The Sea Has No Mercy. Remarkably, the record is the first album Taupin has entirely self-written and his first solo album in almost 40 years. Across its 10 songs, he draws on 76 years of lived experience to create what he describes as a late-life manifesto, looking back on the people, places and experiences that have shaped him with a perspective that could only come with time.
Taupin says, “I couldn’t have made this album as a younger man. I couldn’t have written any of these songs. They’re all completely indicative of Bernie Taupin at 76-years-old. They need the life behind them. Everything on this record is hugely personal. Every single line, every word, means something to me, whether from a past, present or storytelling perspective.”
The album was inspired by Taupin’s acclaimed 2023 autobiography Scattershotand a retrospective documentary that has been in development for a few years. Ultimately, the three projects will be innately interlinked. Listen to the album’s title track “The Sea Has No Mercy” HERE.
Recorded in Nashville with producer Frank Liddell, The Sea Has No Mercydispenses with volume and sparkles in favor of warm, atmospheric folk informed by intimacy and closeness. Taupin is joined by a core band of Music City veterans: guitarist Adam Wright, bassist Glen Worf and keyboard player Michael Rojas, collectively nicknamed The Tennessee Stone Cutters. The album also features guest vocals from Brandi Carlile and Georgey Taupin, with additional contributions from country legend Lee Ann Womack, the Jeremy Jordan Ensemble and percussionist Jay Bellerose.
Having enjoyed phenomenal success in an enduring career that spans almost sixty years, The Sea Has No Mercy proves that Bernie Taupin’s life-long creativity is as strong as ever - and there’s much more to come soon, too. He has continued to collaborate on new songs for Elton John, while his eagerly anticipated documentary project continues to take shape, and his bestselling, critically acclaimed Scattershot memoir has been optioned for development.
Taupin will make his debut appearance at AMERICANAFEST on Wednesday, September 16, joining Brandi Carlile for the 2026 Keynote Conversation in Nashville. Presented without a moderator, the conversation will explore songwriting, collaboration, artistic longevity and the enduring power of authentic storytelling.
The Sea Has No Mercy (out October 23) is available to pre-order / pre-save HERE. In addition to its digital release, it will be released on vinyl and CD.
