Big Yellow Dog Music songwriter Meghan Trainor tops the country airplay chart this week as the co-writer of Lauren Alaina's "Road Less Traveled." The song is the first No. 1 of Lauren Alaina's career and Trainor's second country No. 1 as a songwriter. "Road Less Traveled" was written by Alaina, Jesse Frasure, and Trainor.
Trainor's relationship with Big Yellow Dog Music began in 2011 at age 17. Since then, she has enjoyed tremendous success as both a Big Yellow Dog Music writer and as an artist for Epic Records. Trainor has had six singles certified double platinum or greater by the RIAA, including "All About That Bass," "Lips Are Movin," and "No." She won a GRAMMY for Best New Artist in 2016 and also has received three ASCAP Pop Music Awards for her songwriting. Trainor's previous No. 1 country hit came as a co-writer of Rascal Flatts' 2015 single "I Like the Sound of That," and she has written songs for Fifth Harmony, Jennifer Lopez, Little Mix, DJ Khaled, Michael Buble, Jason Derulo, and others.
"Meghan's ability to continue to write for others is a reflection of the depth of her writing abilities," says Big Yellow Dog Music co-owner Carla Wallace. "I love that Meghan wrote 'Road Less Traveled' with two of her Nashville friends, Lauren and Jesse Frasure. This makes her second No. 1 with Jesse. I also love that this song embodies Meghan's natural ability to empower girls!"
In addition to her success with Alaina, Trainor has a new song, "I'm a Lady," appearing in Smurfs: The Lost Village, which opened Friday. She also voices a character called SmurfMelody in the film.
