Blue-Collar Desperation Spirals Into A Lawless Scheme On Hunter Flynn’s New Song “Robbing A Bank”

Today (6.26), Hunter Flynn, who recently partnered with Big Machine Records / Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment, releases his new song “Robbing A Bank.” Stamped with his undeniable Appalachian soul sound, the song finds working-class, blue-collar desperation spiraling into a lawless scheme when there’s nothing left to lose.

"Every aspect of this song has been so much fun," said Flynn. "From writing it, recording it, drawing the cover art, acting and making the music video with my little brother, I smiled and laughed the entire time. I'm excited to share it with the world. Hopefully, it causes some of you to smile and laugh as well."

Written by Flynn and produced by Allen Parker and David Ferguson, “Robbing A Bank” blends Country and Western pedal steel with Flynn's warm-weathered, Kentucky-bred drawl as he takes listeners through a story of falling on hard times and being willing to do anything it takes to make it out. With Flynn’s distinctly unpolished Appalachian-tinged vocals and full-throated holler, “Robbing A Bank” is a classic story song where the main character devises a plan to overcome a struggle to make ends meet, ultimately deciding that the consequences might be worth the crime gone wrong, singing:

I’m robbing a bank

Or maybe a convenience store

And I’m starting to think

That jail would beat sleeping on the floor

Well, at least they get three meals a day

It’s a win for me either way

Yeah, I’m robbing a bank

The artwork for “Robbing A Bank” was hand drawn charcoal by Flynn and features his imaginative Appalachian astronaut that has become a thematic fixture across his visual art.

“Robbing A Bank” is the second single off Flynn’s upcoming debut album to be announced later this year, following his recently released “Wasted Day.” Deemed “one of the most underrated artists in country music right now” (Whiskey Riff), Flynn left his job as an insurance salesman following an eye-opening car accident that inspired him to pursue his art and music dreams and has since been writing and releasing new music and touring across the U.S.
