Bokksu sources Japanese snacks from centuries-old family makers, providing cultural sustainability through its work with more than 100 makers since 2016. Among the many artisans are Senbei Lab (offering a range of flavored rice crackers), Honma Anpan (creator of sweet red bean treats), and Akai Ribon (a patisserie that bakes with local Japanese flavors and ingredients). As cultural traditions, techniques and flavors become more accessible all over the world, there is a responsibility, one that is at the core of Bokksu’s mission. It is important to share these Japanese goods in their most authentic form, while supporting the original makers. As Bokksu continues to expand horizons across the globe, so do the reaches of Japanese culture, and those who have sustained it.

This fall, Bokksu announced the acquisition of Japan Crate, a pop culture-inspired Japanese candy, snacks, and drinks start-up. The deal unites two companies that have pioneered a unique and growing sector of food and culture and, as a combined business, makes Bokksu the largest business of its kind in the world. Learn more from Bokksu CEO & Founder Danny Taing on Modern Retail. This acquisition enables Bokksu’s rapid expansion into retail, with immediate access to national retail partners with over 5,000 locations—including outlets World Market, Hot Topic, FYE, and more. This comes on the heels of a partnership with Japanese company Sanrio, creator of the renowned brand Hello Kitty, to create the world’s first Hello Kitty and Friends Snack Box Subscription.

Bridging cultures through Japanese snacks has been a goal for Bokksu since its launch in 2016. Beginning with its signature monthly subscription Bokksu Snack Box, the company expanded with Bokksu Boutique, offering specialty and gourmet gift boxes, and most recently added Bokksu Market, which helps more people access everyday Asian snacks and groceries. Themed snack offerings celebrate Japanese holidays and prefectures/regions, providing a unique way to learn, taste, and experience Japan and its vibrant culture from your home.
