Boz Scaggs Smolders His Way Through Bobby "Blue" Bland's "I've Just Got To Forget You," Off 'Out Of The Blues' (July 27/Concord)
The second song to be released from Boz Scaggs’ upcoming ‘Out of the Blues’ (July 27/Concord) is a smoldering take on Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “I’ve Just Got To Forget You.” A blast of saxophones opens the track, followed by a snaky guitar riff and Boz’s smooth, mournful voice lamenting a love lost as the lilting groove sets in. “I’ve Just Got To Forget You” is a perfect inclusion on this record, which finds Boz reconnecting with the songs that made him fall in love with music as a boy growing up in Texas and Oklahoma.

The self-produced 'Out of the Blues' features Scaggs applying his iconic voice and gritty guitar skills to a set of vintage classics by such blues greats as Bobby "Blue" Bland, Jimmy Reed and Magic Sam, an unexpected and stirring reading of Neil Young's "On the Beach," and original compositions by his friend and songwriter Jack Walroth. For the occasion, Scaggs assembled a star-studded studio band including guitarists Doyle Bramhall II, Ray Parker Jr. and Charlie Sexton, bassist Willie Weeks, drummer Jim Keltner, keyboardist Jim Cox, and Walroth on harmonica, all supporting Boz himself on guitar, bass and vocoder.
