Brooklyn Bowl — called “New York City’s mecca of bowling, food, and entertainment” by the New York Observer — will welcome a set from the most awarded band in the history of bluegrass, The Travelin’ McCourys, and a Festival of Colors from Billboard chart topper, Red Baraat, as part of their March line up.
The Travelin’ McCourys & Jeff Austin Band - Wed, Mar 4
With six Grammy nominations and a win for 2006’s Best Bluegrass Album, The Del McCoury Band is the most awarded band in the history of bluegrass. Featuring Ronnie McCoury on mandolin, Rob McCoury on banjo, Jason Carter on fiddle, Alan Bartram on bass and featured guests on guitar and vocals, the band is known for their individual prowess on their instruments and their rapidly expanding reputation as collaborators with the members of numerous iconic groups from Vince Gill to the Allman Brothers and Phish. The Travelin’ McCourys will bring their unique blend of traditional Appalachian music and improvisational jazz to the stage at Brooklyn Bowl (shows: 8:00pm, admission: $20).

DRKWAV - Thu, Mar 5
Comprised of three master musicians - Skerik (saxophone), John Medeski (keyboards) and Adam Deitch (drums) - DRKWAV’s uncompromising debut album ‘The Purge’ explores the deep psychedelic corners of the human psyche on “eight tracks [that] surge and swell in cinematic overture” (JamBase). The trio will bring their dark wall of intricately detailed sound to Brooklyn Bowl for a night of sonic exploration (show: 9:00pm, admission: $20).

Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds - Sat, Mar 7
Nine-piece powerhouse Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds will bring their modern spin on classic soul to the stage at Brooklyn Bowl for an explosive live show. The band is led by Arleigh Kincheloe (Sister Sparrow), whose astoundingly powerful voice and sly demeanor make for a spellbinding presence onstage. She is backed by the mighty force of The Dirty Birds, a flock of eight men who masterfully lay down thundering grooves and soaring melodies (show: 9:00pm, admission: $15).

Red Baraat’s Festival of Colors - Sun, Mar 8
Formed by Sunny Jain in 2008, Red Baraat is a pioneering eight-piece band from Brooklyn that has drawn worldwide praise for its singular sound -- a merging of hard driving North Indian bhangra rhythms with elements of jazz, go-go, brass funk, and hip-hop. In 2013 Red Baraat released Shruggy Ji, their second full length album, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard World Music Chart and occupied three of the top ten selling records on iTunes North American world music sales charts. Live, the band gives these songs new life - dipping in and out of improvisation, teaching the audience dance moves, and visibly having a blast (show: 8:00pm, admission: $15).

Budos Band - Fri-Sat, Mar 27-28
Brooklyn's nine-member Budos Band has a horn-driven sound, dubbed "Afro soul," which draws influence from funk and Afrobeat. As such, the group's new album 'Burnt Offering' fits perfectly on the Daptone Records roster, known for its deep understanding of soul, funk, gospel and Afrobeat music. 'Burnt Offering' breaks from Budos' earlier records in another significant regard: this is their first album without an outside producer. "We had arrived at a different place sonically and needed see it through completely ourselves," says baritone saxophone player Jared Tankel. The Budos have traveled far and wide—playing across four continents—since the band’s inception, and will now take the stage at Brooklyn Bowl with their new psychedelic rock sound (shows: 8:00pm, admission: $20).
