CBS 60 Minutes Profiles Two-Time 2016 Grammy Nominee Joey Alexander

This Sunday, January 3, CBS' 60 Minutes will chart the remarkable journey of twelve-year-old piano wunderkind Joey Alexander from his native Indonesia to the world stage with a profile by Anderson Cooper. The segment was filmed over several months in 2015, an incredible breakout year during which Alexander released his critically acclaimed debut album 'My Favorite Things' (Motema Music) and played a string of high profile performances at the Newport Jazz Festival, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Town Hall in NYC and beyond.

Earlier this month Alexander - who the New York Times calls "A thoughtful musician as well as a natural one, with a sophisticated sonic palette and a dynamic sensitivity" - was nominated for two 2016 Grammys for Best Jazz Instrumental Album and Best Improvised Jazz Solo. In a year in which the Grammys have "experience[d] a youth movement" (New York Times), Alexander is the youngest nominee of them all. If he wins either award, Alexander will become the youngest individual artist ever to win a Grammy.

Before the Grammys, Joey Alexander is set to play a three night run from January 15-17, at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center. He will also begin recording his follow-up to 'My Favorite Things' shortly.
