Tales of Misfortune received praise from NPR's Fresh Air, Billboard, American Songwriter, Whiskey Riff, Bandcamp, and more. The 8-track album recounts the 21-year-old Boones Mill, VA native's origin story and artistic coming of age, diving into stories that capture the allures of small-town living while journeying through the pains of unrequited love and grief.

Over the last year, the newcomer -- who NPR Fresh Air praised has the "crackling, creative energy that transcends age or genre"-- has already shared bills with artists such as Charley Crockett, Molly Tuttle, Ketch Secor and Marty Stuart And His Fabulous Superlatives (among others) and is set to join 49 Winchester for two sold-out Lexington, VA shows this summer. He recently played MerleFest, Rooster Walk and Suwannee Spring Reunion and will continue his busy festival season with Bourbon & Beyond, Floydfest, AVL Fest and more. About Colby T. Helms:

At the bottom of the Southwest Virginia foothills half-a-mile from the nearest neighbor, Colby T. Helms resides in an “underground house” built by his late father on land his family has owned for generations. Helms first dreamed of making music his life at the age of 12, when a group of Blue Ridge Mountain old-time and bluegrass players performed songs like The Ozark Mountain Daredevils’ “Standing On The Rock” and the gospel classic “A Beautiful Life” at his father’s funeral in Boones Mill, VA. He taught himself guitar, banjo, and mandolin by watching local performers and YouTube videos, and by age 18 he was a veteran performer in the Blue Ridge/Appalachian Mountains region, fronting his band The Virginia Creepers.
