Intelligence Squared U.S. Debates “It’s Time To End The War On Terror”
New York, NY – July, 18, 2011 - On September 7, New York City’s premier live debate series, Intelligence Squared U.S. (IQ2US), will mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11 with a newsworthy debate. “IT’S TIME TO END THE WAR ON TERROR” is the resolution that will be put to the test by four of the top influencers on the topic of America’s role in fighting global terrorism.
“After ten years, this issue continues to be a divisive force in our culture,” says Robert Rosenkranz, founder of IQ2US. “We want to illuminate the critical challenges surrounding terrorism during this tragic period in our history.”
Moderated by ABC News Nightline’s John Donvan, Intelligence Squared U.S. airs on more than 220 NPR stations nationwide. It recently announced a media partnership with the online magazine Slate that launches in the Fall.
For the motion:
Peter Bergen, Co-Director of New American Foundation’s Counter terrorism Strategy Initiative.
Juliette Kayyem, former Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs and board member of Harvard’s Belfer Center.
Against the motion:
Michael Hayden, former director of the CIA and principal at The Chertoff Group, a global risk management and security consulting firm.
Richard Falkenrath, former NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Counter-Terrorism, principal at the Chertoff Group.
“We are committed to showcasing timely, compelling topics with the world’s leading thinkers,” says Dana Wolfe, executive producer of Intelligence Squared U.S. “This debate launches our fall season, and we are honored to contribute to the 9/11 dialogue.”
Taking place just four days in advance of the 10th anniversary of 9/11, and just minutes away from Ground Zero, IQ2US will debate the effectiveness of the War on Terror as the organizing principle behind our foreign policy. The audience members will include dignitaries related to 9/11, first responders, advocates and victims’ families.
The debate will take place in front of a live audience at NYU’s Skirball Center in New York City. Audience members will vote to decide the winning team of this meaningful debate.
