“A collaboration that’s unexpectedly evolved into one of the high points of my musical career.” That’s how Jimmie Dale Gilmore described his blossoming second-act partnership with Dave Alvin - as he presented his good friend with an Americana Lifetime Achievement Award earlier this month. “I have to thank my dear genius friend and teacher,” Alvin responded as he accepted the honor from the hallowed stage of the Ryman Auditorium. After releasing their second album together earlier this year, TexiCali, it’s clear the creative bond between this “modern-day Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson” (Texas Monthly) has never been stronger. And they came to prove it at the 2024 Americana Music Awards, previewing their “effortlessly cool, tender and beautiful” (Magnet) live show with a ripping performance of Alvin’s “4th Of July.” As Dwight Yoakam said when accepting his own Lifetime Achievement Award later in the show: “Without Dave Alvin coming into my life, I don’t know where my journey would have taken me. I owe him a debt of gratitude forever."

Next up for Alvin and Gilmore is San Francisco’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass (October 5), where the duo will perform songs from TexiCali and more - backed by Alvin’s longtime band The Guilty Ones. Among the standouts from the new album, the group’s live rendition of “Borderland” has been particularly celebrated - with the Boston Globe recently offering: "I doubt that the personal-as-political has ever been more closely observed or more beautifully sung." Afterwards, they'll travel across the country to partner with The GRAMMY Museum for “A New York Evening With Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore” on Tuesday October 22. The special event will be moderated by New York Times bestselling author Warren Zanes - who spoke to Alvin for a keynote “in conversation” at AmericanaFest - and will take place at WNYC’s Greene Space in Manhattan. Alvin, Gilmore and The Guilty Ones will also continue their “superb and surprising” (Philadelphia Inquirer), and aptly-titled, We’re Still Here - The Tour through the end of the year and into 2025, with their next run of East Coast and Midwest dates taking place from October 23 through November 2.
