“For No Doubt (I’m In Love),” Erick takes it back to his Jamaican roots - his first time ever filming on the island. The video is a visual love letter to Erick’s motherland showing his version of Jamaica instead of the cliche depictions on what most might associate with Jamaica. Erick is portrayed as a familiar foreigner with a Bond like aura to him. It’s amplifying a truer side to Jamaican culture - the yeng yeng bikes, the mesh marinas, community and joyous love that extends beyond just romance. It’s a universal love. One love.
Along with the video, Erick has published an essay and series of photographs that reflect on the experience. Rather than treating Jamaica as a backdrop, Erick writes about building relationships, listening before documenting, and witnessing the creativity, resilience, and everyday beauty of Kingston. The essay also explores how the trip fundamentally changed his relationship with the country and deepened his understanding of where he comes from. As Erick writes, "I did not want Jamaica to become texture for my work while the people living there received nothing from the exchange."
"No Doubt (I'm In Love)" was produced by Yeti Beats, the longtime executive producer for Doja Cat, alongside Latin Grammy Producer of the Year Federico Vindver.
Erick has had a tremendous summer. "No Doubt (I'm In Love)" was featured in Rolling Stone's Songs You Need To Know and he talked about the track and much more on Apple Music with Ebro. He also performed the song on On The Radar and with a live band as one of the first musical guests on new late night YouTube show Outside Tonight. He’s also recently shared his favorite spots in NYC with Isaac Likes, met up with Daniel Wallat the Recording Academy’s GRAMMY House Black Music Collective event, where Erick also performed, and answered The Verge's Weekend Questionnaire.
In addition to the incredible attention around the single, Apple also commissioned him to write and perform "APPRECIATION," a new song and video that closed the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote in June. He also performed alongside Nas at the FIFA World Cup NY/NJ Concert Series, and before his beloved Knicks won the NBA Finals, he released "The Rematch (Garden Freestyle).”
