Esperanza Spalding Announces Series Of 12 Performances In November And December For New Project Being Released Now: 12 Little Spells (Concord Records)

Esperanza Spalding has announced a string of twelve unique pop-up shows for her new project ‘12 Little Spells’ (Concord Records). The performances will start on November 19 in San Francisco and end on December 12 at NYC’s The Town Hall.  These shows will feature a full band and visuals, and find Spalding further exploring theatrical staging in a concert setting.  The tour will also be filmed for a live concert film to be released next year.  Tickets go on sale Friday, October 19 at 10AM local time.  Tickets and more information can be found at

Esperanza began releasing this new project Sunday Oct. 7, posting one spell a day – in the form of new music with video – at 12:12PM EST on Facebook Premieres, Instagram TV, and her website.  She will continue releasing them until all 12 have debuted, on Oct. 18.  Then on October 19 the album will appear on digital streaming services and a pre-order will go live.

‘12 Little Spells’ came to Esperanza while exploring different ways to create, experience, and process music; particularly the healing powers of art and how music and the body interact. Each song is inspired by a different body part.

‘12 Little Spells’ was composed by Esperanza Spalding. It features Spalding on vocals, Matthew Stevens on guitar, Justin Tyson on drums, Aaron Burnett on saxophone, Burniss Travis on bass, Corey King on background vocals, and Rob Schwimmer on continuum. Spalding also worked with visual artist Carmen Daneshmandi, opera/theater director Elkhanah Pulitzer, wardrobe specialist Diego Montoya, choreographer Chanel DaSilva and video artist Ethan Samuel Young to create elements of the album and live show.

Esperanza is using Facebook in a new way for this project. Each day, she is debuting her spells as Facebook “Premieres” – a new streaming experience that enables fans to watch and discuss pre-filmed video together in real time. Each day the spells are also airing on Instagram’s new TV feature, and each are archived to her website.
