From Day One (FD1), the Brooklyn-based, corporate-values conference series and media outlet, announces its fall and spring lineup today following a successful first season. At From Day One events nationwide, thousands of CEOs and founders come together to tackle issues surrounding business’s most essential resource: people.
Conferences focus on innovative ways for companies to foster stronger relationships with employees, customers, and communities, and to take on challenges like diversity and inclusion, employee engagement, and corporate culture. With their practical, hands-on approach, lauded Crunchbase, From Day One conferences set themselves apart by showcasing "executives’ ideas about improving diversity in their own workforces [that] were, for once, concrete.”
This season, FD1 kicked off with notables including Linda Pizzuti Henry (managing director of Boston Globe Media Partners, the No. 1 most influential Bostonian, according to Boston magazine) bestselling author and screenwriter Dan Lyons (HBO’s ‘Silicon Valley’) in Boston on Sept. 18.
The Boston event opened with gender-equity scholar and author Iris Bohnet in conversation with author and professor Nancy Gibbs. “I have not found one single study suggesting that diversity training works," Bohnet told Gibbs. “Think about healthy eating awareness ... Good intentions don’t always mean people follow through.” She went on to say that the solution was to make systems less biased, through measures like blind assessments.
The conference moved into sessions on how companies can interact with their communities, how and why people with disabilities need to be part of the diversity--and-- inclusion conversation, and wrapped up with author Dan Lyons’s take on the stress of today’s workplace.
Jim Collins (‘Good to Great,’ one of the best-selling business books of all time) will speak in Denver, and other featured speakers this season will include executives from Western Union, McKinsey & Co., Netflix, Lyft, U.S. Bank, and more. From Day One’s 2019-20 season will take it to seven cities coast to coast (including five new cities), with more to be announced.
Last season’s speakers included top academics, executives, and speakers (86% top-level decision makers, more than 60% representing companies with 2,500+ employees), and highlights included best-selling author and TIME editor-at-large Anand Giridharadas as well as author and one of the “world's ten most influential intellectuals” (MIT) Douglas Rushkoff. Executives from the NBA, Salesforce, Everlane, MGM, WeWork, and more spoke as well, and the events were warmly covered and received by Business Insider, Workforce magazine, WIRED’s head of content operations, and more.
