MARCH 4, 2022 - NEW YORK, NY - 3x Grammy Award nominee, Garren, today released his latest single, “What What Would It Take” off of his forthcoming album, Is This What You Want? via fan-powered platform, Corite. Executive produced by Brody Brown (Bruno Mars, Silk Sonic), the celebrated indie Hip-Hop/R&B artist’s latest release delves into deeply personal storytelling that’s decidedly uptempo while being direct about the “down times” in his life.

“What Would It Take" is a blissful mix of Hip-Hop/R&B with hints of a pop-punk ballad. By mixing these diverse genres, the song becomes timeless - raw in its melodies, but with a soft and soulful performance. The sound is nostalgic while maintaining the modern vibe that is a staple of the forward-looking artist and producer.

Working with the likes of Nipsey Hussle and J. Cole, Garren quickly cemented himself as a go to producer, songwriter and vocalist within the upper echelons of the music industry. Garren’s Is This What You Want? is equal parts self-reflective and prophetic, according to the artist.

The introspective album shares a side of Garren that few have seen before, peeling back the layers of accolades and industry acclaim to reveal a poignant human struggle.  After getting caught up in a lifestyle that wasn’t authentic to his true being, he asked himself, “Is this what you want?”

“The mother of my child inspired this album,” says Garren. “I wrote this whole album not knowing that I was telling the future, but everything that I wrote has now come to fruition. I was writing these songs before these struggles actually manifested.”

The song “Over It” explores a breakup that hadn’t yet happened when it was written, but ultimately came to pass. Garren’s fear of the imagined circumstances and feelings that inspired the track have now become his reality. Garren’s aim is to be authentically vulnerable with Is This What You WantHe compares the process of writing the album to sculpting a statue - chipping away at the hardened exterior to reveal the more human form underneath.

“Everyone makes mistakes,” Garren adds. “I am going through a phase where I’m reflecting on my actions, my behaviors, my thought processes. I was making music that didn’t reflect who I am. I lost the ability to love myself because I wanted to be someone else. This album is not that - it’s not about presenting a facade.”

Garren partnered with Corite for the album release because he feels the company’s ethos matches that of the album itself. “Their model is all about bringing fans closer to the artist by making them a part of the project,” says Garren “This album represents me at my most vulnerable and I wanted to draw my fans even further into this project for that reason. Corite is the perfect fit for who I want to be as an artist.”
