GRAMMY Music Education Coalition sets Metro Nashville Public School (MNPS) two-day Music Technology Conference with The NAMM Foundation
On Thurs., May 30th and Fri., May 31st, GRAMMY Music Education Coalition (GMEC) with funding from The NAMM Foundation will support Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) Music Technology Conference, a two-day gathering at Martin Luther King Magnet High School offering relevant music education training, tools, recording technology equipment, sessions, and workshop for over 100 teachers.
To kick off the conference, MNPS has enlisted keynote speaker Professor Beverly Keel of Middle Tennessee State University’s Department of Recording Industry to engage teachers in an interactive discussion on preparing students for careers in music through 21st century trends and technology.
Following the keynote speaker presentation, the Music Technology Conference will feature panel discussions and sessions on the basics of sound systems, student assessment software, Quaver Curriculum, technology for instrumental ensembles, best practices, and more from Belmont University speakers, as well as organizations like MusicFirst, Quaver Music, Romeo Music, and others. Teachers will get the chance to learn from individuals in the music industry how to incorporate these topics in their classrooms.
The NAMM Foundation’s generous first investment with GMEC augments the non-profit's professional development dollars that are being used to help Nashville-area educators develop professional skills in music instruction. The goal is to give educators additional tools and training to integrate technology and engage Nashville's public school students in a well-rounded music education.
The conference builds off the work that GMEC has done in Nashville schools, such as helping fund a new recording studio and more. GMEC with The NAMM Foundation is also investing in Philadelphia schools with programs like DASH (Destined To Achieve Successful Heights) which brings innovative classes such as songwriting, music production, music business, publishing, and more to Philadelphia schools.
