Today, Grandaddy shares “Underneath The Weeping Willow (Piano Version),” the latest track from The Sophtware Slump ….. on a wooden piano, out November 20 on Dangerbird Records. Stripped of the original’s buzzing ambiance, the new version of “Underneath The Weeping Willow” emphasizes the song’s almost haiku-like austerity: a moment alone with nature in the midst of an album haunted by the specter of technology.

A standalone LP and CD release of The Sophtware Slump ….. on a wooden piano will follow on February 19th, 2021.
….. on a wooden piano recasts Grandaddy’s “sad, quaint, low-key Y2K-era classic” (Pitchfork) The Sophtware Slump as a stark, lonesome set that highlights Lytle’s sharp melodies and the album’s prescient perspective on technological alienation. In an age of unprecedented connectivity, these songs spoke to significant solitude — and, performed solo on piano in the midst of the social distancing era, that solitude resounds even louder in 2020.
