Virginia Duo Joins The Head and the Heart, Rainbow Kitten Surprise On Tour This Fall
(New York, NY): From running an organic farm to touring the mid-Atlantic on literal bicycles to signing to Atlantic Records, Illiterate Light have officially arrived with their self-titled debut LP, out October 11th. Part soaring indie rock, part swirling psychedelia, and part atmospheric folk, these 12 songs produced by Adrian Olsen (Natalie Prass, Foxygen) and Vance Powell (Jack White, Kings of Leon, Chris Stapleton) capture Jeff Gorman and Jake Cochran entering a new era of their ever-evolving career.
Today they share their new video for “Better Than I Used To” — “a perfect addition to your summertime playlist,” according to NPR Music — over at Billboard:https://bit.ly/2L0e5Lq
Gorman and Cochran have spent the last few years honing their atypical live show; Gorman plays guitar while playing synth bass with his feet, and Cochran plays standup drums. This upending set, presented by two upending guys, has been road-tested and made big impressions at major festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza; the Boston Globe called their Newport Folk Fest performance from this year “so explosive it earned a standing ovation (no small feat before noon).” Gorman and Cochran now bring their intricate “less is more” musicianship, infectious hooks, and alchemic on-stage chemistry to tape.
But Gorman and Cochran are more than just an excellent show. On Illiterate Light, the duo works just as hard on their songwriting. On their major-label debut, they explore the push and pull of distance and desire (“Vacant Lover”), all the quiet moments of joy and pain in any relationship (“Sometimes Love Takes So Long”), and how the personal can also be political (“I Wanna Leave America” and “American Boy”).
Listen to how the band “translate their intense live show into a joyful noise” (NPR) in this live performance of “Carolina Lorelei”: http://bit.ly/2Zjc6qJ
