Last month, Politico cited Intelligence Squared U.S. as a model for how America could improve its presidential debates: Two teams, debating a single motion, and whoever convinces the most audience members to join their side wins. Writer Virginia Heffernan praised Intelligence Squared U.S. debates as "such great sport, and so instructive."
This spring, Intelligence Squared U.S. will offer many opportunities to see this model in action. In a wide-ranging season, the veteran debate series will tackle topics including nuclear power, anti-Semitism, gene editing, the Electoral College, student debt, and the two-party system. From January through June, Intelligence Squared U.S. will travel across the country to hold debates in New York (moving to their new home at the Florence Gould Hall), San Francisco, and Chicago. They even continue expanding their global footprint with debates in Europe and Canada. All debates will, as always, air online and via radio and podcast. Debaters to be announced soon.
