New York, NY – Feb. 9, 2012 – On March 13, Intelligence Squared U.S. (IQ2US) will debate whether “China Does Capitalism Better than America.” China seems to have emerged unscathed from the global economic crisis, in stark contrast to its biggest debtor, America. But can its brand of state-directed capitalism overcome rampant corruption and the threat of growing inequality, or will the American model of innovation and free markets prevail?
In support of the motion are Orville Schell, award-winning journalist and Director of the Center on U.S.-China Relations at Asia Society, and Peter Schiff, CEO and Chief Global Strategist for Euro Pacific Capital. Against the motion are Ian Bremmer, Founder/President of Eurasia Group and author of The J Curve and Minxin Pei, Professor of Government at Claremont McKenna College and author of China’s Trapped Transition.
Moderated by ABC News correspondent John Donvan, Intelligence Squared U.S.'s spring season is presented in partnership with Slate with live webcasts on Fora.tv. Debates air on more than 220 NPR stations nationwide and are televised in the New York area on PBS Channel Thirteen, WNET, WLIW, and NJTV.
