Jack Blocker Reflects On Life On The Road With “When The River Runs Dry” – Out Now

Today (9.16), Texas-born, Nashville-based singer-songwriter Jack Blocker releases his new single “When the River Runs Dry” off his upcoming concept album, Big Jefe, coming November 6th via Thirty Tigers. 

Produced by Patrick Lyons, Blocker wrote “When the River Runs Dry” before he even conceptualized the world of Big Jefe. As he continued to build out the project, he realized how the song fit into the album, further highlighting the parallels between Blocker’s own story as a musician on the road and that of Big Jefe. A reflective look at life on the road and the highs and lows of chasing a music career, Blocker realizes that true freedom is having someone and something to come home to.

Blocker didn’t set out to make a concept album. During his first winter in Nashville, he started writing “Big Jefe,” Blocker’s first-ever single that tells the tale of a reckless, drunken miscreant named Jefe, released in 2023. He started building up a world around that story, inspired in part by Willie Nelson’s 1975 concept album Red Headed Stranger, as well as country storytellers like Marty Robbins and Townes Van Zandt.

Across Big Jefe, Blocker fully embraces the rough-edged Americana spirit that’s called to him from the start. The 11-track Big Jefe follows a drifter searching for purpose, exploring themes of redemption, crime, desperation, revelry, and life on the open road. Rooted in cowboy culture, vintage Americana, and Western art, the album blends influences from artists like Wilco and The White Stripes with Blocker’s own storytelling. Blocker recently released the album’s first single, "Brand New Name", where he reintroduces the persona of Jefe with bravado. Each lyric blurs the lines between Blocker’s and Jefe’s stories, working odd jobs and stumbling backwards into some exciting, unconventional work. Blocker also shared the official video, immersing listeners in the world of Big Jefe through his commitment to the album visuals, which feel both timeless and distinctly himself.

Already a veteran of the road at 28, Blocker’s sound sits at the intersection of outlaw country, Americana folk, and the Texas singer-songwriter tradition. Last year, he released his debut album, The Land On Most High, produced by Big Jefe producer Patrick Lyons and released on his own label, Elbow Grease Records and his intentional songwriting and authentic storytelling have earned recognition from SiriusXM and fans across the country. In addition to his own headline shows, Blocker has opened for artists like Shane Smith and the Saints, Molly Tuttle, Hayes Carll and Drake Milligan.

Tonight, Blocker will play his official AmericanaFest Showcase at 3rd & Lindsley before heading on the road for his expanded 2026 tour, making stops across the country, including Blocker’s home state of Texas, as well as new shows in New York City, Boston, Chicago, and more.
