Jackie Greene, the reigning “Prince of Americana” (New York Times) announced today that his new power-rock & roll, psychedelic-gospel band The Modern Lives Band will be joined by East Nashville roots band Smooth Hound Smith and singer-songwriter Cris Jacobs for their Nashville show (Oct. 1 – The Cowan) and by indie-rock vet (Silver Jews) William Tyler for their LA show (Oct. 14 – The Fonda).
Set against trippy, Technicolor- think ‘Yellow Submarine’ meets free-hand ‘Futurama’- visuals by “king of indie animation,” Oscar-nominated Bill Plympton (created for the collaborative music film ‘The Modern Lives,’ with all music by Jackie), Jackie and The Modern Lives Band will prove their storied live chops at these dates. Along with some of Music City’s finest, including Nashville Recording Academy president Shannon Sanders serving as music director and keyboardist, newcomers Megan Coleman (percussion), Jon “Smoke” Lucas (drums), and Ben Rubin (bass), as well as longtime member Nathan Dale (guitar), the band will perform the songs from Jackie’s bluesy upcoming EP ‘The Modern Lives, Vol.2’ (October 5th, Blue Rose Music).

Jackie has played with everyone from Bob Weir and Phil Lesh to Buddy Guy, BB King, and the Black Crowes. Now fueled by the energy of Nashville’s rhythm and blues and his new collaborations, his sets take his and his bandmates’ virtuoso live skills to new heights, juxtaposing Southern soul with California-trippy visuals and vibes.
