“Jazz Age Libertine” (EW) Hailey Tuck Reimagines Beach Boys, Jackson 5 On New EP ‘Delancey Street

NEW YORK, March 18, 2015 -- Hailey Tuck has a voice "straight out of the Jazz Age with a modern identity" (Interview) and the 24-year-old expat has reimagined the work of an eclectic line-up of artists including Fats Waller, The Zombies and Maroon 5. On her new four-song EP 'Delancey Street' out March 31 and recorded at NYC's Sear Sound studio, Hailey infuses her sultry vocals and fervent love for '20s jazz into a collection of Motown and surf rock favorites as well her first original song.

'Delancey Street' begins with "All I Do is Think of You", a Jackson 5 b-side about the relentless grip of a schoolyard crush which swells with emotion as Hailey pleads for respite. The tempo picks up with coy Cole Porter double entendre "My Heart Belongs to Daddy", boasting a swing-inspired edge and Hailey's sultry, direct vocals. "Seems You'd Want Me ", a sweetly melancholic ode to a love lost, is the first original song Hailey's written and recorded. A stripped down version of "Caroline, No" off the Beach Boys' 'Pet Sounds' closes the collection, swapping in Hailey's delicate vocals for barking dogs and train whistles.

Drummer Eric Harland (collaborator of Esperanza Spalding and Wynton Marsalis) plays on the EP, along with bassist Joe Sanders, a graduate of prestigious Thelonious Monk Instute and sideman for Ravi Coltrane. Both musicians signed on to work with Hailey on the EP after catching her debut performance at acclaimed Umea Jazz Festival in Sweden.

Hailey Tuck has been called a "jazz age libertine" by EW, a "super babe" by Nylon and "just sublime" by The Zombies. Raised in Austin, TX on a diet of 1920's jazz, vintage dresses and Nina Simone and Fats Waller, Hailey decamped for Paris at age 18 and became an underground favorite. She's performed four sold-out shows at the iconic Le Duc des Lombards in Paris, opened for Jamie Cullum and gave a "stunning" (NME) performance at the London Jazz Festival.

Hailey makes her SXSW debut on March 19th at Elephant Room, and her LA debut at Hotel Cafe on March 27. 'Delancey Street' will be celebrated with a record release party March 31 at Rockwood Music Hall. Hailey follows that performance at Sleep No More's Manderley Bar on April 2.dfrank@shorefire.com
