Jazz Sensation James Francies To Perform First Headlining Shows At Blue Note Jazz Club

Adding to the stacked roster of celebrated musicians ushering in Blue Note Jazz Club’s historic 40th anniversary, piano wunderkind James Francies is set to take the stage for a two-night run of shows next month. An “improvising juggernaut fluent across many musical dialects” (WGBO), Francies will perform cuts from his new Blue Note Records album Purest Form alongside other fan favorites during his September 7 & 8 shows, set for 8:30 pm and 10:00 pm each evening.

Francies’ shows mark his first headline performances at Blue Note with his potent trio of Jeremy Dutton on drums and Burniss Travis on bass; previously, he has accompanied luminaries like Robert Glasper, Maurice Brown and Pat Metheny. The Blue Note Records artist has also racked up equally impressive credits in hip-hop and R&B from collaborations with Chance the Rapper, Childish Gambino, Yebba, The Roots and more. An embodiment of the Blue Note ethos, Francies’ solo Blue Note performances promise a dynamic, ultramodern jazz experience infused with pop, hip-hop and R&B, that remains entertaining from start to finish.

The pianist-producer-composer James Francies expands his personal explorations of sound-bending and orchestral approaches to music across false borders of genre and style. The Houston born jazz pianist exemplifies this with collaborations across stylistic realms—including those with Childish Gambino, Pat Metheny, Mark Ronson, The Roots, Yebba, Chris Potter, Common, Eric Harland, Marcus Miller, DJ Dahi and Ms. Lauryn Hill.
