Out Now: Juls & Sango’s Fufu & Grits EP

Today (May 28) the longtime and newly revived Soulection Records proudly present Fufu & Grits, the new EP by Juls and Sango.

Juls, one of modern Afrobeat’s most prolific creatives, and Sango, the eclectic Seattle DJ and producer, have recorded an inspiring set that brings out the best of both artists. The EP channels the sunny and feel-good spirit that Soulection has become known for: Jazz, Brazilian funk, Afrobeat, Latin rhythms, and a feeling of genuine musicianship. The instrumental “Ritmo Coco” shines with shimmering guitar licks that play with whispering piano and dueling flutes that transport the listener to a faraway tropical beach. “Angele Ni Fie” trades flutes for trumpets, has elements of Amapiano, and it features playful vocal samples over a steady yet evolving beat. On Fufu and Grits, both Juls & Sango blend both of their musical influences to create a timeless body of work.

Growing up between East London and the Ghanaian capital of Accra, Juls’ foundation with a rich selection of sounds has placed him at the forefront of the new wave of African influence sweeping the industry. In 2019 alone, Juls collaborated with Burna Boy, Goldlink and Tyler, the Creator. On his latest record Colour, Juls’ world-class production and songwriting skills are on full display with standouts like “Angelina” and “Slow Down.” He’s been featured on both Spotify’s New Music Friday and Apple Music’s Best Of The Week playlists, with millions of streams on each platform.

ABOUT SANGO

The Seattle DJ and producer, born Kai Asa Savon Wright, has been featured in Rolling Stone, Billboard, Washington Post, FADER, VICE, Highsnobiety, and more. Producing since he was 12, Sango channels everything from heady jazz to heartfelt gospel, jittery club to combustible baile funk, uncanny future-bass to mellow trap-soul. He’s produced songs for Tinashe, Bryson Tiller, DRAM, Smino, Dave B, and more.
