The artist who’s known for his work and sharing the studio with musical luminaries like Kali Uchis, Duckwrth, Ella Mai, Xavier Omar, Khalid, and BJ The Chicago Kid, is a multi-hyphenate and often uses fan art to inspire his electric visuals. This album is no different — the cover features a manipulated & reimagined piece created by a fan that was carefully curated and edited by Kyle. SASSY, a character Kyle created for this record, is a more realistic representation of the artist’s personality who’s all about having fun and living life. The vibrant and eye-catching visual pays homage to Kyle’s 2019 record SUGA cover art, which also was inspired by fan artwork.
To create an effective turn-up record, Kyle needed to access sides of his personality he hadn’t explored before musically. Once he loosened up and became comfortable laughing at himself and the process, in part due to his light-hearted relationship with album collaborators, producers, and friends Chris Hartz (Childish Gambino) and Bijou Choder (Brasstracks), he found the sound of the album, a soundtrack to better times and the world to come.
Previously released tracks from Kyle Dion’s upcoming album include “Placebo” featuring rap icon Ja Rule and “Purr” featuring Kari Faux, whom Pitchfork calls a “clever rapper-singer who won’t be defined.” The two singles are fun and vibrant, setting the scene for Kyle’s pop-inflected sound that comes alive on the upcoming project. Seductive and summery, this album is perfect for BBQs, laying poolside, or taking a late-night drive.
