Watch “Guy I Used To Be” (Acoustic-ish)
May 28, 2024 - Lawrence — the NYC soul-pop supergroup fronted by Gracie and Clyde Lawrence — has announced the release date for their fourth studio album: Family Business will be out June 21 on Jon Bellion’s label Beautiful Mind Records. Lawrence will also release the album’s title track this Friday, pre-save here: https://stem.ffm.to/familybusiness
It’s been a tremendous spring for Lawrence as they gear up to release Family Business. They just opened for The Rolling Stones on May 26 at MetLife Stadium and will be featured on a song on Meghan Trainor’s forthcoming album. Members of Lawrence just performed “Wherever I Go” with Jacob Collier at a sold-out Radio City Music Hall and Kings Theater in NYC as well as The Greek in Los Angeles. Plus, Gracie, an accomplished actress, will be a series regular in the upcoming third season of Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble’s Sex Lives of College Girls on MAX, playing the character of Kacey.
Lawrence is also preparing for their biggest-ever headline tour this summer and fall, which includes Radio City Music Hall (low ticket warning) and a sold-out Wiltern in Los Angeles. It marks their first tour since opening 60+ dates for The Jonas Brothers in 2023, and several other shows in North America and overseas have already sold out. Sonically, the album is classic Lawrence: inspired by the 70s soul/funk faves of their childhood — Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, Randy Newman — the band strives to write music the way they think pop should be created: self-arranged live instrumentation that perfectly walks the line between being high-level “musician’s music” and accessible, highly energetic pop songwriting. Family Business will feature three recently released singles, “i’m confident that i’m insecure”, “23”, and “Guy I Used To Be.” Watch their trademark “acoustic-ish” renditions of each track here.
As eight longtime friends turned entrepreneurs managing their own tours, running their own merch business, engineering their own sound, and staging their own headline tours, Lawrence is more than a family band. They’re an entire DIY organization, and Family Business is their direct answer to the band’s most asked question: “what’s it like to be in a band with your sibling?”
Funky, high-energy, and perfectly packaged, Lawrence has created a winning rendition of pop music that has earned them over 60 million streams on Spotify on their 2021 album Hotel TV — whose lead single “Don’t Lose Sight” hit #33 on Top 40 radio — and has graced the stages of major festivals including Coachella, Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Firefly, Summerfest, and others, plus sold out three consecutive nights at Brooklyn Steel in 2022 and been featured on Jimmy Kimmel, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Today Show, Tamron Hall and more.
