August 11, 2023 - Lawrence has shared “i’m confident that i’m insecure,” their first single of the year, to celebrate the kick-off of a massive four month, 50+-date stadium tour with the Jonas Brothers that begins tomorrow night with two weekend shows at Yankee Stadium (August 12 and 13). The inspiration behind “i’m confident that i’m insecure” stems from Gracie Lawrence’s experience during Covid, which she recounts as a low place in her life. “I began writing this song in the middle of a particularly stressed-out night during Covid, shared it with my brother Clyde, and then with Jonny and Jordan in our band and Jon Bellion who helped to write and shape it into what it is now,” Gracie says. “I think sometimes songs about insecurity can feel really heavy or serious, but this song is filled to the brim with neurosis and comedy, and in my experience, finding the humor in your most self-critical thoughts, can sometimes be the cure in itself, or its own form of confidence.”
Clyde adds: “Confidence and insecurity are often seen as two polar opposite ends of a spectrum, but this song is built on the idea that we all have a bit of both, or sometimes a lot of both.”
Clyde and Gracie Lawrence are a New York City-raised sibling duo that have been writing songs and playing together since early childhood. What started out as a duo turned into an eight-piece band of musician friends from childhood and college. Lawrence has achieved some remarkable heights, including performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Today Show and NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly, and the first band to release music on Grammy-winning producer/songwriter/artist Jon Bellion’s label. Their 2021 album Hotel TV has over 60 million streams on Spotify, and tens of millions of streams across all major platforms. The album’s lead single, “Don’t Lose Sight,” hit #33 on Top 40 radio and was played on over 100 multi-format stations across the country. They’ve also played major festivals including Coachella last summer, plus Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Firefly, Okeechobee, Hangout, Summerfest, and sold out three consecutive nights at Brooklyn Steel last year. Clyde also made international headlines when he testified before a Senate hearing on the ticketing industry in January of 2023.
On August 3, Lawrence also debuted the first episode of “The Hotel TV Show,” a docuseries about making a living as an 8-piece band and launching a major 2021 tour in the wake of the pandemic. Additional episodes will be released each week and can be viewed on their YouTube channel.
In addition to the band, Clyde and Gracie have also amassed considerable resumes with other artistic pursuits. Clyde has written songs and score for film and television, including Disney’s Noelle (2019), Steven Spielberg’s Animaniacs (2020), Landline (2017), The Rewrite (2015), Music and Lyrics (2007), and even Miss Congeniality (2000), for which he wrote the theme song at age 6. Gracie is an accomplished actress, appearing most recently in the Showtime drama Billions and the CBS All-Access murder mystery One Dollar. Gracie has also appeared on Broadway in Brighton Beach Memoirs (2009), in films such as The Sitter (2011) and Did You Hear About the Morgans? (2009), and in TV shows including The Good Wife (2012), The Americans (2014), and Younger (2015).
