Los Lobos’ boundary-breaking, wide-ranging four-decade career has seen the East L.A. legends achieve success in a multitude of styles and genres. This holiday season, they venture in yet another new direction with Llegó Navidad, their first-ever Christmas record, which is out today on Rhino. Keeping with the spirit that’s come to define the group, Llegó Navidad breaks the holiday-album mold by shining a light on regional classics from across the Spanish-speaking world. After researching nearly 150 possible song selections, the album’s eleven tracks include holiday songs from Veracruz to Panama to the Texas border, each reinvented in the band’s own inimitable style.

Standout tracks on Llegó Navidad include the band’s previously-released take on “Dónde Está Santa Claus,” which completely reworks the 1958 novelty hit made famous by twelve-year-old vocalist Augie Rios, and Los Lobos’ brand-new original “Christmas and You,” written by David Hidalgo and Louie Pérez. Elsewhere on Llegó Navidad, the band puts their own spin on Freddy Fender’s Tex-Mex classic “Christmas Time In Texas,” the son jarocho folk tune “La Rama” and the 70s South American salsa hit “La Murga.”
Llegó Navidad is currently available on CD and digitally from Rhino, and a vinyl version will be released on November 22. Los Lobos are on tour in the U.S. through the holiday season and beyond, including December runs in New York, Chicago, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston and throughout Southern California.
