Today, boundary-shattering queer rock duo MAN ON MAN has released ‘Provincetown’, an ambitious musical statement that unapologetically celebrates queerness through pure rock ‘n’ roll excellence. Drawing inspiration from the titular Cape Cod town, the duo of Faith No More co-founder Roddy Bottum and his partner, guitarist/vocalist Joey Holman, have created what will surely be one of 2023’s best rock records - a no-holds-barred collection that offers a salute to the queer heroes of the past while gazing fearlessly into the future.

Initially conceived while Roddy Bottum recovered from a leg injury suffered at the breakwater in Provincetown, the LP features a dizzying array of styles and sounds, all anchored by Bottum and Holman’s fuzz-drenched guitars and Bottum’s inventive synthesizer arrangements that bring a biting yet pop-friendly edge to the duo’s unique sound. Propulsive disco-grunge album opener “Take It From Me” pays homage to a bygone era of queer joy while lead single “Showgirls” adopts classic punk energy to ask listeners to give in to the beautiful spontaneous moments that stick with us for our whole lives.
The rest of the record is just as dynamic - “Piggy” is a rumination on hookup app-culture while live staple “Gloryhole” applies noisy shoegaze textures to Holman’s heartbreaking lyrics that address the commodification of modern queer culture. The brooding “Hush” provides a thrilling conclusion to the LP, and features guitar work from the legendary J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr who plugged his vintage Grestch axe directly into the soundboard to deliver the track’s distinct lead lines and crushing drone.

‘Provincetown’ Tracklist:
Initially formed during the pandemic lockdown, the band began as a project to pass the time and a way for Bottum and Holman to share their blossoming emotional feelings for one another. Their 2021 self-titled debut caught the immediate attention of Rolling Stone, KEXP, Consequence, Kerrang! (“woozy shoegaze cuddles and wistful, low-key ballads”), DIY (“an escapist blend of lo-fi indie punk, harnessing the beauty of their companionship in the sun-kissed soundscapes”) and more. MAN ON MAN will be hitting the road this summer for select dates with Le Tigre before headlining East Coast dates throughout July. The duo have also announced additional US dates that will take their exhilarating live show across the country this fall. Full dates below.
