Following "Viva Tu" and "Sao Paulo Motoboy," Manu Chao unveils "Tu Te Vas" ("You’re Leaving" in English), the third single from his forthcoming album, "Viva Tu," set for release on September 20. A multilingual and unifying work of art, the album seamlessly blends genres into a vibrant collection of moving, colorful postcards that put the human being at the center of everything.
"Tu Te Vas" is a delicate and sensitive ballad about two souls who choose to part ways. True to Manu Chao’s style, the pain and struggle of existence are set to music. In collaboration with Laeti, the rapper known from the series "Validé," the song reflects on a past love to better face the future, without bitterness. Sung in both French and Spanish, "Tu Te Vas" resonates with anyone who has faced the heartache of a breakup. This universal song transcends borders, wandering through the depths of emotions, and despite the recurring, definitive phrase "j’reviendrai jamais" (I will never come back), it does not exclude any future. What lingers are the ghosts, the shared kisses, and the photos of someone once loved (and perhaps still loved), all of which, once the pain fades, will bring smiles - the smiles of those who have loved freely and are grateful for it. It's a message of hope, a refusal to tarnish what was strong, sincere, and intense.
It's also a song that Laeti could only write with Manu Chao. Love cannot be sung with a heavy hand, and Manu Chao has always been able to express emotions with a true sense of simplicity and a healthy art of contrast ("Me Gustas Tu", "Je ne t'aime plus"), never falling into indecency and magnifying human emotions: "I think it's necessary to return to simple things. Complexity has brought the world to where we are today. Even though I think that to get to the simple things, you must go through the complexity first… Anyway, what makes me happy is building simple projects and writing simple songs".
It’s yet another tender melody where the ego doesn’t have much of a say. Tu t’en vas, pour toujours et tu seras toujours là, quelque part.
