Today, Mapache - the cosmic California country duo of Sam Blasucci and Clay Finch — release their Yep Roc Records debut From Liberty Street. Produced by longtime collaborator Dan Horne (Beachwood Sparks, Cass McCombs, Allah-Las), From Liberty Street - named for the Los Angeles home where they lived and recorded all these songs - captures Mapache exhibiting a “quintessentially laid back” (UNCUT) musical bond that mirrors the comfort, closeness, and camaraderie of the album's homespun roots.

FLOOD says the album’s songs are “inspired by everything from Mexican boleros, to Bakersfield twang, to lonesome cowboy campfire tunes.” KCRW says, “Mapache’s chemistry is undeniable,” while Shindig simply deems it “medicine for the soul.” See more praise below.
Listen to “Life On Fire,” which was named one of NPR’s 10 Songs Public Radio Can’t Stop Playing — NPR praises its “charmingly loose-yet-deliberate groove, so strong you can basically hear the sunshine.” Listen here: https://youtu.be/-wLquILK0XY
Late last year, Yep Roc reissued Mapache's self-titled debut from 2017, which was cut live and raw around a single microphone. Praised by Aquarium Drunkard, UK magazine Shindig and others, that record helped the band earn festival appearances at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and Pickathon, where Rolling Stone named their set one of the weekend's top highlights, as well as tour dates with Chris Robinson, Beachwood Sparks, and Mandolin Orange.
Keep an eye out for more from Mapache.
Praise For Mapache and From Liberty Street “A groove so strong you can basically hear the sunshine.” — NPR Music “If the Everly Brothers cruised back from a high desert road trip and landed at County Line beach and cracked a beer to watch the sunset – you’d have these guys...Mapache’s chemistry is undeniable and their creative circle seems to be flourishing.” — KCRW “A blazed-up Everly Brothers.” — Aquarium Drunkard “Quintessentially laid-back. This is Sunday morning music, best experienced within walking distance of Big Sur or Joshua Tree.” — UNCUT “Medicine for the soul.” — Shindig “Angelic harmonies weaving somewhere between traditional folk and modern cosmic country music. These songs are inspired by everything from Mexican boleros, to Bakersfield twang, to lonesome cowboy campfire tunes.” — FLOOD "14 well-crafted, tastefully performed tunes...Mapache presents its songs with earnestness and compassion. And in these times, when social distancing is a necessity and life with a pandemic becomes the new normal, we could all use a little more warmth, earnestness, and compassion in our lives.” — No Depression “They make everything sound easy-schmeezy, from the way they mix California country, psych-rock and Latin music to their preternatural harmonies. Their music smolders rather than blazes, but that’s the point.” — Buzzbands.la "Blissed out from the get-go, From Liberty Street pulls the listener in and demands attention.” — The Aquarian "There are tales of hammock swung afternoons that feel flush with melodies traded back and forth like pot-luck parcels. Seems like if you’re looking for a bit of relief right about now, this is a damn sure bet.” — Raven Sings The Blues |
