ABOUT THE SHOWS:
The 8:30 set each night will be a complete presentation of Roberts’ ‘Deep in the Shed,’ originally released in 1989 on RCA Novus. This year is the 30th anniversary of that release. Roberts released an updated version of the suite in 2012 on his label, J-Master Music. Two of the members of that group, Alphonso Horne and Ricardo Pascal, were part of the group of musicians which eventually became the Modern Jazz Generation. That ensemble includes all of the musicians that will play during this week of shows. They represent the fourth generation of musicians who have been trained and mentored through being taught this suite of blues.
The 10:30 set each night will feature original music and standards taken from the canon that Roberts has performed over the years, featuring different members of the nonet, and long time trio members Jason Marsalis and Rodney Jordan.
