In a personal and powerful new essay published by Rolling StoneMargo Price opens up about the events and emotions that have unfolded in the wake of Nashville's Covenant School shooting this spring. Titled "Sit Beside Me In The Darkness," it marks her first piece of writing since her 2022 memoir Maybe We'll Make It, delivering an in-depth account of a month she describes as simultaneously terrifying, tragic and turbulent, but also insightful, united and hopeful. Having previously experienced the unthinkable loss of her own young child, Price has remained outspoken and insistent in her protest of Tennessee's current gun laws, and hopes to inspire deep thought about how we can make it so something like this never happens again. Through these nearly 3,000 words, she contemplates ending her music career in order to homeschool her children, voices her opinion as a former gun owner, and fears for the safety of her family in response to threatening comments faced online. She discusses the Bob Dylan song she chose to perform at the vigil for the Covenant victims and the way in which it comforted her through the grieving process for her late son, the meeting she, Amy Grant, Sheryl Crow, Ruby Amanfu, Allison Russell and Will Hoge had with Gov. Bill Lee and the unexpected empathy she felt for him, the faith she has in Gen Z, and the change she believes women can instill when working together.

During one of the gatherings last month, Margo Price also played "Fight To Make It" at Legislative Plaza, a protest song that she and her husband Jeremy Ivey originally wrote about Rosa Parks and Amelia Earhart, but updated to address the "Tennessee Three" that day. Initially released as a Bandcamp exclusive benefiting reproductive justice and abortion access, the studio version of "Fight To Make It" (feat. Mavis Staples & Adia Victoria) is now available on all digital platforms.

Following the recent release of her latest album Strays – a freedom-filled, mushroom-fueled, Jonathan Wilson-produced opus – Margo Price has continued to share new recordings, including a reimagined "Change of Heart" (feat. Sierra Ferrell), a cover of Willie Nelson's "Hands On The Wheel" (feat. Particle Kid), plus live performances and music videos for "Radio" (feat. Sharon Van Etten). Just last week, Strays earned Margo Price three nominations for the 2023 Americana Honors & AwardsArtist of The YearAlbum of The Year for Strays, and Song of The Year for "Change of Heart," tying for the most nominations of any single artist this year. Price delivered a solo rendition of her song "Lydia" at the announcement ceremony, and in June, Price will also perform at the 2023 Libera Awards alongside Shemekia Copeland, Dawn Richard + Spencer Zahn, Sudan Archives, Martha Reeves, host Hannibal Buress and more, where she is up for the Humanitarian Award and Best Country Record

After making several appearances at Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90 last month, as well as supporting a run of shows with Chris Stapleton, taping an episode for Season 49 of Austin City Limits and more, Margo Price will soon return to the road for the rest of her 'Til The Wheels Fall Off Tour. A new leg of September headline dates has just been added with special guests S.G. Goodman and Brit Taylor, on-sale this Friday, May 19th, and before then Price and her band will continue playing festivals and dozens of other shows across the US and UK.
