The Mountain Goats’ “Fantastic Genre-Bending” (Vanity Fair) New Album In League With Dragons Out Today On Merge Records

After a busy pre-release period that included a Facebook Livestream from the Wizards of the Coast HQ (makers of Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering), the launch of season two of the popular podcast I Only Listen To Mountain Goats, features with Vanity Fair and more, The Mountain Goats’ new album In League With Dragons is out today via Merge Records.  Produced by Owen Pallett, and engineered by Matt Ross-Spang (Margo Price, John Prine), the record is “more polished and ambitious than early TMG fans could have ever imagined” according to NPR Music.  Check out their full First Listen write-up here. 

In League With Dragons was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville with Darnielle joined by drummer Jon Wurster, bassist Peter Hughes, and multi-instrumentalist Matt Douglas.  Robert Bailey contributed additional vocal arrangements and strings were performed by the Macedonian Radio Symphonic Orchestra.

The Mountain Goats kick off an extensive international tour today, April 26, at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC; many shows are already sold out. Additionally, they’ve just announced a free SummerStage show on August 10^th at East River Park.  See below for a full list of dates.
