May 25, 2017, New York -- On Thursday, June 1, The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME), NY is Music, Sound Diplomacy and NYU Steinhardt will present Sound Development: NYC, a day-long conference exploring the intersection of music, tech, real estate, and economic development in New York City.
MOME recently issued the first-of-its-kind economic impact study of the city's music ecosystem, demonstrating that New York City is the music capital of the world. The study found that the city's music industry supports 60,000 jobs, $5 billion in wages and $21 billion in economic output. Music-related jobs and wages are growing at a faster pace than the rest of the city's economy. With NYC emerging as the music tech capital of the world, Sound Development: NYC will consider what comes next.
The conference will feature cutting-edge discussions on how to best capitalize on the synergies between music and related industries; the future of live music in the city; how to expand the city's digital music sector; and more.
The lineup of speakers includes leaders from government, real estate, live music production, academia, and beyond.
Sound Development: NYC is the kickoff event for New York Music Month, the first-ever citywide celebration of New York's diverse and thriving music sector. The month will feature 30 days of events designed to showcase and support the makers of New York City's soundtrack.
A full list of events and participants is available on the Sound Development: NYC website.
