Old 97’s, Polyphonic Spree, Soul Rebels Highlight Brooklyn Bowl August Lineup

Brooklyn Bowl -- "one of the most incredible places on Earth" according to Rolling Stone -- will welcome alt-country rock mainstays Old 97’s, psychedlic choral pop collective the Polyphonic Spree, and New Orleans power-funk jazz hybrids the funky METERS and Soul Rebels as part of their August lineup.

Old 97’s – Wed, Aug 6 & Thurs, Aug 7
To say that rock and roll has been good to the Old 97's would be an understatement (guitarist/vocalist Miller, bassist/vocalist Murry Hammond, guitarist Ken Bethea, and drummer Philip Peeples). The band emerged from Dallas twenty years ago at the forefront of a musical movement blending rootsy, country-influenced songwriting with punk rock energy and delivery (show: 8pm, admission: $17).

Frankenreiter’s rich, honey-thick vocals and masterful guitar work bears all the intimacy of an impromptu back-porch performance and the tenderness of a treasured love letter (show: 8pm admission: $10-12).

Special guest to be announced (show: 8pm admission: $15).

With the obvious influences—Parliament, Sly & The Family Stone, Rick James and Earth, Wind & Fire—as the basis for a recipe, Turkuaz adds healthy doses of jittery, world-pop-dance groove—reminiscent of Remain In Light era Talking Heads—and a passion for Motown and R&B into the mix (show: 8pm, admission: $12).

About Brooklyn Bowl:
Brooklyn Bowl is the ultimate night out, with its groundbreaking integration of premiere music, 16 lanes of bowling, a bar featuring locally crafted beers, and food by the acclaimed Blue Ribbon restaurant group. Located in the beautiful, 19th-century Hecla Iron Works building, the venue -- aka "rock and roll heaven" (Village Voice) -- boasts a sound system and amenities that "no other local rock club can offer" (The New York Times). Brooklyn Bowl recently opened its London outpost at The O2 (a "wonderland of food, drink, music and pins" - London Evening Standard) and Las Vegas in The LINQ, Caesars Entertainment's open air district in the center of the world famous Las Vegas strip.

Serving award-winning beer from the adjacent Brooklyn Brewery, Brooklyn Bowl is as committed to locally made products as it is to environmental sustainability -- it's the first L.E.E.D.-certified bowling alley in the world. And the food? "Epic," says Eater. In other words, Brooklyn Bowl's unprecedented combination of top-flight music, bowling, beer and food is "like nailing a spare on a four-ten split" (The New Yorker).
