October 17, 2025 – Today, Canadian singer-songwriter William Prince has shared his most personal album to date, Further From the Country (Six Shooter Records). The nine-song collection, produced by Liam Duncan (aka Boy Golden), offers an epic, expansive odyssey of persistence and solace.

As a family man and a proud newly-wed, Prince has no shortage of things to be joyful about, and his last album celebrated happiness in all its ever-changing forms. Now, from a place of peace, Further From The Country reflects on darker times through the lens of his upbringing in Peguis First Nation, Manitoba. Raised in a close-knit Indigenous community and shaped by deep musical traditions, the new songs draw on childhood memories — both joyful and difficult — as a way to process the injustices and complexities of today’s world.

The album’s soaring title track serves as a thesis statement for the album. In Prince’s own words: “This song is about meeting your point of destiny, making it to the big proverbial city that I’ve always had in my mind. In this song I dare to hope for more, to be bold and take things further. ‘Further From the Country’ is a bridge that spans my point of origin, where I am now and where I want to go.”

The album was recorded in Winnipeg and features performances from a hometown ensemble including Alyshia Grace Prince, Cody Iwasiuk, Ben Plotnick, Kristopher Ulrich, and more. With “Damn” and “All the Same,” Prince writes with striking clarity and sensitivity, drawing parallels from small town to big city hardships. From the dusty highways of “On Rolls the Wheel” to the poignant family portraits in “For the First Time” and “The Charmer,” the musician’s songwriting proves to be both acutely unique and universally resonant.

Prince will be featured on NPR’s Here & Now today to discuss the new album. Tune in HERE.

Further From the Country follows his previous LP Stand in the Joy, produced by Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile). Prince has performed on CBS Saturday MorningNPR’s Tiny Desk, and stages ranging from Newport Folk Festival, Stagecoach, and The Grand Ole Opry to opening slots for Neil Young, Willie Nelson, and The War and Treaty, in addition to landing songs in Yellowstone and more. In 2024, Prince was nominated for Emerging Artist of the Year at the Americana Honors & Awards. He’s also a two-time JUNO Award-winning artist and John Prine Songwriter Fellowship winner.

Also today, Prince has announced shows at New York’s Union Pool on November 18th and LA’s Hotel Cafe on November 20th. See below for announced dates and visit https://www.williamprincemusic.com/ for more information.
