Selah Sue — the multiplatinum-selling, internationally renowned Belgian singer and songwriter — returns from a silent hiatus to present her new Bedroom EP. Crafted the day after the birth of her first child, this project feels more intimate than ever. Written in her bedroom, it plunges us in the euphoric feeling of joy of the artist turned mother: Her deep, deliciously hoarse voice hovers over intimate, symphonic lullabies that offer comfort, solace, and protection. The project showcases her unabating ambition: For the first time in her career, she has taken on herself the task of producing it, one hand on her guitar, the other editing away on her computer. In collaboration with the talented producer Kwes (Solange, Kelela, Tirzah), Selah Sue gives birth to five incandescent tracks that capture those private moments of pure devotion.

Selah Sue’s new single “You,” out today on Because Music, expresses the tender, absolute love she has for her two children. Opening with a haunting vocal harmony, uplifted by an insistent bassline and accentuated by delicate guitar figures, the song’s message is encapsulated by the dreamlike repetition of these words: “You are all I need, you are all I want.”

“After my first child was born, everything fell into place. Peace, love, unity. Pink cloud. It was the most natural high I have ever experienced and lasted longer than just a moment. I was planning on taking a break from music and everything else involved, but instead I felt the urge of making new music so strongly. And so I did. I’ve created music out of the most honest and perfect form of creativity: out of curiosity and so much love for my child and the art of music. To all my dear fans, waiting for a new record, this is my explanation of what I’ve been mostly focused on these last few years. Looking forward to share this with you.”

Selah Sue released her first album Selah Sue in 2011. She spoke with pure honesty about her teenage depression, leading her to sell millions of records and become an international music phenomenon, even being praised by the legendary Prince. With her follow-up album Reason (2015), Selah Sue only confirmed the extent of her true talent. Collaborating with the likes of Childish Gambino, ludwig göransson, Robin Hannibal, and Hudson Mohawke, Reason saw her establishing herself as an inspiration for a whole new generation of artists.

Sincere and deeply personal, more alternative and stripped back than previous releases, Bedroom EP marks a new step in the life of 31-year-old Selah Sue. A new chapter that will allow her fans to get even closer, as they await the release of her upcoming third album.
