Palace Confronts Existentialism With Beautifully Bleak Arrangements, Listen HERE

New Album Shoals Out January 21st

“A spare, appealing blend of minimalist folk and sweeping orchestral pomp.” – AV Club

“Scarily gorgeous rock.” – Happy Magazine

"Feels like Palace's first significant work." ★★★★ – MOJO

Ahead of the release of their spellbinding third album Shoals (out January 21st), today London band Palace releases their latest single, the beautiful but bleak “Shame On You” via Avenue A / Fiction.

Steeped in reverb, flowing with emotion, Leo Wyndham’s stirring falsetto glides across the deeper vibrations of “Shame On You’s” more spacious arrangements. Confronting existentialism in stride, the group’s sound is distinct and assured, proving once again that Palace has mastered the art of “emotionally literate, melancholic indie” (The Observer).

Today’s live performance video release spotlights the group’s aqueous arena rock, all-enveloping sound delivered in nonchalant fashion. Watch the video, directed by filmmaker and photographer David J. East (Foals, The Japanese House), here: https://palace.lnk.to/ShameOnYouPR/YouTube

Forthcoming record Shoals is the band’s love letter to fear and the fullness of life one experiences when facing it down. Unsurprisingly, the sea was a major inspiration, as the record posits the ocean’s violent yet beautiful energy as the ebb and flow between sheer panic and euphoric relief. Recent single “Sky Becomes Sea” perfectly encapsulates the album’s purpose, confronting death — the ultimate phobia — with dreamy and elegiac orchestration that builds steadily beneath unhurried backing vocals. Listen here.

As frontman Leo Wyndham explains: “‘Shoals’ is a record about confronting our own fears and anxieties. Through the pandemic we were confronted more than ever with ourselves with little distraction, suddenly seeing who we are in the rawest of forms. It held a mirror up to our flaws and imperfections and forced us to see the real 'us'.

The record symbolises how our minds can have beautiful yet dangerous depths, like the ocean, and how our fears and thoughts are like shoals of fish that move and shift constantly from place to place; chaotic, often untameable and unpredictable.”

In addition to ''Sky Becomes Sea'' and today’s "Shame On You," Shoals will include the brilliant singles "Fade," "Lover (Don’t Let Me Down)," and "Gravity" released earlier this year and praised by NME, Stereogum, The Observer and more. The album’s release will kick off Palace’s biggest tour yet, with sold-out dates across the UK, Europe, and the US, including their biggest show to date at the O2 Brixton Academy and US tour dates at NYC’s Webster Hall, DC’s 9:30 Club, Austin’s Empire Garage, and The Fonda in Los Angeles.
