Petal Debuts "Raw, Indie Rock Resolution" (Noisey) "Stardust"

Taken From New Album, 'Magic Gone', Out June 15th On Run For Cover

Petal (Kiley Lotz) today returns with "Stardust", the divine, cathartic closer of her highly anticipated new LP 'Magic Gone', which is due June 15th on Run For Cover. Called "gutwrenching" and "a raw, indie rock resolution" by Vice Noisey, the track begins with delicate piano arpeggios, gradually blossoming into a waltzing, tumultuous finale that marks one last release for the catharsis and self-discovery felt all across the album.

Speaking to Vice Noisey, Lotz describes the song as "the resolution of the record. It's about coming to terms with the end of a relationship and the things that went wrong, but knowing you wouldn't change a thing and that you'll always love and cherish the time you had with that person. And the growth that got you to where you both are now. It hurts thinking "maybe this" or "what if", but at the end of it, it was worth it because that love was real and led to both people growing. All the pain in growing led me to finding peace with myself and accepting the ways I still have to go."

Listen to "Stardust".

'Magic Gone' is vitally important and cathartic, and the duality between vignettes on songs makes it a piece to be heard as a whole. Comprised of a Side A titled "Tightrope Walker" and Side B titled "Miracle Clinger", it's a collection of songs that Lotz wrote before she entered recovery for depressive and panic disorders, and songs she wrote in recovery, and also covers the period of time in which Lotz came out as a queer person. In her own words, Lotz tried to channel the vigor of the likes of Queen and Nina Simone along with modern vocalists like Solange, Margaret Glaspy and Mitski.

Petal embarks on a run of US dates this summer alongside Camp Cope, Sidney Gish and more, followed by a string of UK dates.

Praise so far for 'Magic Gone':

"Spending time with 'Magic Gone' is an emotional experience, but witnessing its creator's journey into health and self-confidence is undeniably powerful." - Interview

"Her high vocals oscillate between delicate and piercing, always commanding attention over chugging rock guitar riffs and skittering drums." - Paper

"'Tightrope' might be dealing with a tough state of mind, but Petal comes out of the other end of it stronger and more whole than ever." - The 405

"It's the sort of song that feels high stakes, like it's enacting an important realisation and all of the emotions that come with that at once: freedom, fear, the sensation of being on the edge of something new." - Vice Noisey on "Tightrope"

"'Better Than You' feels pretty aptly named, what with it being The Best." - Upset

"An authentic, raging excursion in self-acceptance. It's the kind of relentless energy that gets you out of bed in the morning." - Goldflakepaint on "Better Than You"
