International Tour Kicks Off May 13; Dates Announced Across US And Europe
Phosphorescent has shared Revelator today; a nine-song collection which profoundly weighs the quiet obstacles and unspoken truths of home, partnership and family. The release of Matthew Houck’s first album since 2018 follows raves for its title track “Revelator” - named a Song You Need To Know by Rolling Stoneand a ‘Best Of’ selection in The New York Times’ Playlist - as well as “Impossible House,” which was praised for its “gorgeous sound” (Stereogum) and as a “swooning indie-heartland ballad that finds Phosphorescent in fine form" (Brooklyn Vegan). Meanwhile, NPR Music named Revelator one of its most anticipated releases of the spring, calling it a “beautiful, thoughtful album.”
Among the yet-to-be-heard material on Revelator is “Wide As Heaven,” which will get its national TV debut on CBS This Morning’s Saturday Sessions tomorrow, as well as “The World Is Ending” - penned by Houck’s partner, singer-songwriter and pianist Jo Schornikow, marking the first Phosphorescent original to be written by someone other than Houck. Elsewhere, inspiration is drawn from seeing the world anew through their children’s eyes, and a surprisingly profound (albeit mildly obscene) series of messages scrawled on a bar bathroom wall. Produced by Houck and recorded in his Nashville studio over the course of six months, Revelator features collaborators including Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs and Jim White of Dirty Three. Aquarium Drunkard has praised the “stunning” album for its“updraft of hope, of expansive, or cosmic revelation…an album that transmutes the doubts and frustrations of the last few years into sounds that soar.”
