Received High Note Global Prize From United Nations Human Rights During Concert Honoring Her Longtime Advocacy

 

December 11 - Last night Cyndi Lauper – the Grammy, Emmy and Tony-winning icon and advocate – hosted her 9th annual Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home for the Holidays benefit concert, presented by Marriott International and AEG. The concert took place in LA for the first time and featured an array of stars, taking the stage with Cyndi and her band over the course of a nearly 3-hour bash. 100% of the proceeds of the concert go to programs supported by True Colors United, which Cyndi co-founded over ten years ago to help end homelessness among LBGTQ youth.

During the show, Cyndi was also awarded the first ever United Nations Human RightsHigh Note Global Prize, honoring and celebrating major recording artists for outstanding achievement in using their music and celebrity platform to advocate for social justice worldwide. The award was presented to her by Kesha.

100% of the net proceeds from the concert support True Colors United’s programs to prevent and end homelessness among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. In America, up to 40% of the 4.2 million youth experiencing homelessness in America are LGBTQ and, according to a recent study from Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago, LGBTQ young people are 120% more likely to experience homelessness than non-LGBTQ youth.
