PJ Morton Wakes Up to Love on New Single, “Good Morning” (feat. Susan Carol)

Recent Appearances Include The Daily Show & MusiCares' Persons of The Year Gala, Upcoming Performances Announced For Governors Ball & More

Today, PJ Morton shares "Good Morning" (feat. Susan Carol), a love song that would have never seen the light of day if not for the loads of fans who finally convinced him to finish it. Having been in the works way back before 2017's breakthrough Gumbo LP, the idyllic soul track has since survived seven of Morton's album releases without ever finding the right home. He always kept it in his back pocket, but when listeners discovered that its uplifting chord progression and spirited strut of a groove had been interpolated for "The Better Benediction," a highlight of his 2022 opus, Watch The Sun, their requests for a proper single grew too loud to ignore. With lyrics that sound like they're best sung through a big, beaming smile, PJ Morton tapped his friend and rising star Susan Carol as the perfect duet partner, and has now given "Good Morning" its own, long-awaited moment.

Earlier this week, PJ Morton celebrated his sixth straight year of GRAMMY nominations. Coming off the heels of four consecutive GRAMMY wins, his three nods for 2023 included Best R&B Album (Watch The Sun), Best R&B Song ("Please Don't Walk Away") and Best Gospel Song/Performance ("The Better Benediction" feat. Zacardi Cortez, Gene Moore, Samoht, Tim Rogers & Darrel 'MusiqCity' Walls). Ahead of the awards, Morton appeared at MusiCares' Persons of The Year gala, where he and Lalah Hathaway delivered a special rendition of "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing" as a tribute to Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson.

With two additional nominations for Outstanding Album (Watch The Sun) and Outstanding Collaboration ("Still Believe" feat. Jill Scott & Alex Isley) at the upcoming NAACP Image Awards, 2023 has already seen PJ Morton return to The Daily Show for an interview with guest host D.L. Hughley, and a powerful performance of his Stevie Wonder and Nas collaboration, "Be Like Water," accompanied by a gripping verse from poet Amir Sulaiman. He has also announced shows at Governors Ball Music Festival and Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre, with much more to come soon.
