Qobuz Celebrates One Year as the US Audiophile Streaming Service of Choice

This Friday, February 14thQobuz, the certified Hi-Res music streaming and download service, is celebrating the one year anniversary of its US launch. By super serving the audiophile community with in-depth exclusive editorial content, personalized customer service, and a carefully curated catalog that includes not only all mainstream music but also deep representation of jazz, classical and other specialist genres, Qobuz has become the unquestionable choice of the American audio enthusiasts.

Since arriving in the US from France last year, Qobuz has staked its claim on music and sound connoisseurs by ditching lossy, unnecessarily low-quality MP3s in favor of a fully lossless, high-quality catalog (files are up to 24-bit / 192 kHz), forging more high-end hardware partnerships than anyone else, and maintaining a download store that allows listeners to support creators by buying their music to own.

The company is also highlighting the growth of The Qobuz Society, a network of over 300 hi-fi audio retail locations across the country. These stores use Qobuz in their demonstrations and distribute information on the service along with free trials and special offers to their customers.

In November, when Qobuz officially said goodbye to lossy compressed music and launched its new, one-price-plan, Studio Premier, the legendary “keeper of the sound” Neil Young responded: “Qobuz sounds great! Qobuz was one of the earliest Hi-Res streamers. Their new offer is another big step towards making Hi-Res streaming available at the same cost as MP3 streaming today.”

The press has responded in kind:

  • In a comparison of classical-focused streaming services, The LA Times commented on Qobuz’s unparalleled sound quality: “Qobuz is the king.”
  • The Absolute Sound gave Qobuz its 2019 Golden Ear Award, saying “I find Qobuz to be essential."
  • Audiophile Style named it - after just one year - their Product of the Decade, saying: "Qobuz has so much going for it that the other services can’t currently match. ... This is a service created by music lovers and it clearly shows."

Qobuz USA Managing Director Dan Mackta said of one year in the US: "With a small but dedicated team of experts in the USA, we’ve been able to carve out a unique market segment for Qobuz. As more and more people catch on to the fact that truly astounding audio quality is now at their fingertips, that audience is just going to grow and grow."
