NASHVILLE, MAY 07, 2019 — Qobuz, the hybrid Hi-Res music streaming and download service, will join Universal Music Group’s “The Future is Now” music experience at Music Biz in Nashville from May 5 to May 7 to demonstrate the evolving consumer appeal of hi-res audio.
Dan Mackta, Managing Director of Qobuz, will demonstrate the service’s broad catalog of content and services on May 7 at 2 p.m. CT in a presentation called The New World of Hi-Res Music Streaming in the Viola Room on the second floor of the JW Marriott. In the room, Music Biz attendees will also be able to preview the latest developments in Hi-Res, VR, immersive audio, and interactive music services.
Qobuz is providing a crucial part of the expanding Hi-Res ecosystem, which is rapidly developing as labels make more content available in Studio Quality sound and consumer appetite for the best available sound continues to grow.
Hi-Res capable hardware and services are becoming widely available and affordable to an increasing number of listeners. MusicWatch estimates that at least 32 million music consumers are interested in and willing to pay for higher quality audio(Annual Music Study 2017, published April 2018.)
Qobuz launched in the U.S. this February after establishing a strong foothold in Europe. Three-quarters of today's U.S. music revenue is from streaming, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, and Qobuz makes the highest level of Hi-Res music available to streaming customers for the first time.
Chris Horton, Senior Vice President of Strategic Technology at Universal Music Group, said, “Universal Music is thrilled to have Qobuz take part in The Future Is Now Music Experience and we are excited to showcase the platform’s capabilities so listeners can hear their favorite music as the artist intended it to be heard.”
Mackta added, “Qobuz is honored to have been asked to take part in this timely and relevant experience. We are eager to demonstrate the service to Music Biz attendees and have a chance to evangelize Hi-Res and lossless audio to people who need to know about it.”
At “The Future is Now” experience, Mackta will be joined in presentations on the move towards Hi-Res by hardware companies dCS, Astell & Kern, Bluesound, by Sony Electronics regarding their 360AR technology, and by interactive music platforms including Oiid, Jammer, Song AI and Streemliner.
